Michael Jordan Helps Keegan Bradley Change Putters

PGA golfer Keegan Bradley was able to switch from an anchored putter to a standard one with the help of Michael Jordan.

Bradley was in a position where he had to switch from his anchored belly putter because it will be outlawed by the PGA beginning in 2016.  According to ESPN, Bradley played many rounds of golf with Michael Jordan using the legal putter and began to get the hang of it.

"We just kept playing and playing. And I felt better and better with it," Bradley said. "And I came here not knowing what I was going to do, and I just played a round with Brendan Steele and I felt good with it again, and I thought there's no reason for me not to do it. I thought I could slip under the radar a little bit as well."

Bradley decided to make the swap on the PGA tour to the conventional putter after missing the cut in two of his previous four tournaments with his most recent finish being for 29th at the HP Byron Nelson Championship on May 18.  The change was sparked further by a conversation his mom had with him after the Bryon Nelson Championship.

"She said, 'I'm going to tell you something. I don't think you're going to like it,"' Bradley said Thursday.  "I was like, all right and she said, 'I think you should use the short putter.'

"I hadn't put any thought into it up until that point. That was on Sunday last week. And so I thought I needed something to get me excited about playing because I was bummed. I took it out. And I played 36 holes a day with MJ last week. And I told him I really wanted him to chirp at me, make me uncomfortable. Which he's good at."

Bradley was -2 and in 37th position at the Memorial Tournament through two rounds.

Phil Mickelson Being Investigated for Insider Trading

Phil Mickelson is one of three men being investigated for "a major insider-trading probe involving finance, gambling and sports," according to a Friday Wall Street Journal article.

The article also linked 78-year-old billionaire Carl Icahn and Vegas bettor William "Billy" Walters. The report claims that Walters and Icahn have a friendship and that Mickelson plays golf with Walters.

The report said that the SEC will look into whether Mickelson and Walters were tipped off by Icahn that his company would make a $10.3 billion bid for Clorox, causing the company's stock to spike.

I have done absolutely nothing wrong," Mickelson said in a statement early Saturday morning.  "I have cooperated with the government in this investigation and will continue to do so. I wish I could fully discuss this matter, but under the current circumstances, it's just not possible."

No formal charges have been filed at this time. The amount of money Mickelson had invested in Icahn's company is not known.

McIlroy Taking Break-Up Better Than Wozniacki

Last week, Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki ended their engagement after sending wedding invitations.

Both began tournament less than a week after the break-up and McIlroy had a better result than Wozniacki.

McIlroy won the BMW Championship in England over the weekend after starting the final round seven strokes off the lead. It was his first tournament victory of any kind in 2014 and the biggest comeback of his career.

Wozniacki on the other hand was knocked out of the French Open in the first round Tuesday. She was at one time the number one ranked women's tennis player in the world, but came into the tournament as the 13th ranked player. She fell in three sets to 64th-ranked Yanina Wickmayer.

Wozniacki did not want to talk about the break-up after her loss Tuesday.

"I don't really want to talk about my personal life. I hope that you all can understand that," she said. "The only thing I really have to say is that, you know, [I want to] thank everybody for their support and sweet messages."

With Woods out if commission and Phil Mickelson having his struggles this season, the PGA does not have a true star player to sell to viewers.

Many no-name players have been topping leaderboards lately and the trend continued at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. After two-rounds. Brice Garnett, Chris Stroud, and Robert Streb topped the leaderboard, combining for zero PGA Tour wins between themselves.

Woods missed The Masters for the first time since 1994 this season and viewership for the final round was its lowest since 1993. This despite Bubba Watson winning his second green jacket in three years.

While the PGA Tour has a number of interesting players like Adam Scott, Jason Dufner, Dustin Johnson, and a slew of others that garner a little attention, there is no big name star.

20-year-old Jordan Spieth could be the PGA's only hope of a second-coming of Tiger Woods. Spieth has been receiving many endorsement deals recently and finished second at The Masters at his young age.

Without Woods, the PGA is struggling and need Woods to return to form. While Spieth could carry the torch in the PGA soon, he needs a few years to develop. The PGA could be dead by the time Spieth reaches his potential if Woods cannot be a solid player in the meantime.

Rory McIlroy Calls Off Engagement with Caroline Wozniacki

PGA golfer Rory McIlroy has called off his engagement with Caroline Wozniacki after the couple had sent invitations for their wedding days earlier.

The couple have been dating since 2011 and told the public they were engaged on Dec 31. McIlroy said ending the relationship was a hard thing to do.

“There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people,” McIlroy said in a statement. “The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had.”

Both had tournament in Europe this week. McIlroy is competing in the BMW PGA Championship in England while Wozniacki is set to play in the French Open on the Women's Tennis Tour.

McIlroy said the breakup was mutual and no different from splits everyone experiences.

“Look, I’m no different than anyone else,” McIlroy said. “Everyone has been through breakups and it obviously has been very, very difficult.”
